SLEEPING DIFFICULTIES
It’s been a long day that has left you dead tired, downright bushed. Yet it is happening again. You lie in bed, wide awake in the middle of the night. You hit the hay 3 hours ago, but try as you might, there is no way you can catch the dreamland express.
Insomnia ranks right behind the common cold, stomach disorders, and headaches as a reason why people seek
a doctors help. In a gallop poll of more than 1000 adults, one-third of them complained that they woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t get back to sleep.
Unfortunately Insomnia perpetuates itself, in that thinking about the inability to sleep creates further tension in the mind and body. Only by relaxing and ceasing to worry about insomnia can a person resume sleeping and thus relieve his anxiety and tension.
In learning to change your patterns of thought surrounding sleep the insomniac must establish a new bedtime routine, which might include such muscle relaxers as leisurely walks, warm baths, massages, hot milk, soft music, or quiet meditation.
After three weeks Insomnia is considered to be chronic. Chronic Insomnia, which can persist for months or years, is caused by a fundamental imbalance in thebody or the emotions.
MEDICAL ALERT:
Serious sleeping troubles sometimes can result in what experts call chronic, insomnia, which would have serious underpinnings, such as psychiatric disturbances, breathing problems, or unexplained leg movements during the middle of the night. Experts agree that if you can’t easily fall asleep or stay asleep throughout the night for a month or so at a time; it may be time to consult an expert
